The Decolonize Your Mind Society, formed in 2018, has gained a lot of attention and recognition not only in Hungary but also worldwide with its first album in 2020 (A Courteous Invitation To An Uninhabited Anabatic Prism). The album was raved about in a full-page review in the renowned British magazine The Wire, while in Hungary it was voted one of the best Hungarian albums of 2020 by Recorder, Keret blog, Kulter and Dalszerző. Not surprisingly, as the material, which draws inspiration from the music of non-European cultures, non-standard tunings, American minimalism and psychedelic, ritualistic music, is a remarkably unique production. The band’s second album, released in 2023, is similarly unique, but with a different approach – tempered with equal-tempered tunings from the octave, unparalleled metrics and intonating instrumental playing.
The current members of the band are Bálint Szabó (guitar), Ernő Hock (bass guitar), Máté Pozsár (synthesizer), Dániel Váczi (glissotar), Áron Porteleki (drums) and Gergő Kováts (saxophone).
Over the years, the band has performed at numerous festivals in Hungary and Europe with their completely unique shows, such as the Dutch Eurosonic, the Austrian Donaufestival and the Slovak Pohoda Festival. Following their highly successful performances at Budapest Ritmo and Kolorádó, they will play for the first time in October at the Turbina in Budapest, where they will be back for another all-encompassing psychedelic journey.
