Béla Tarr: Not education – liberation! Student panel discussion

07.02.2026 Saturday15:00Bistro
After The Turin Horse was presented and Béla Tarr declared his oeuvre complete in 2011, many thought this marked the master’s retirement. In reality, it was the beginning of a new stage of his life, dedicated to film education.
In 2012, Béla Tarr moved to Sarajevo, where he founded a unique and unorthodox international film school, film.factory, which existed until 2017. During this period — and in the years that followed — Tarr held numerous workshops around the world, forming an international community of his students.
One of his last and proudest projects was his collaboration with the Freeszfe movement in Budapest (2020–2021), from which deep connections emerged with a new generation of Hungarian film professionals.
More than 40 filmmakers from Europe, Asia, and the Americas will gather in Budapest to salute their master and friend. They come together to share their memories and reflect on the key ideas of Béla Tarr’s teaching, which they continue to see as guidelines in their own practice.
Moderated by Amila Ramović, Béla Tarr’s wife and collaborator.
The event is open to the public and gonna be held in English.
