Liana guest: Okos Viola
Liana
This year’s Fülesbagoly Talent Search winner Liana started in 2022, referring to themselves as dreamfolkpop. Their music is influenced as much by folk music and the world of magic as it is by soul, pop and classical music. Their first song ‘Wild Rose Beetle’ was released in December 2022. They then released two more singles (Nightfall, Sea Shallows), and in April 2023 they debuted their first EP, ‘Dewdew’, which contains six tracks. The songs on both the single and the album were produced and engineered by Soma Sashegyi (The Anahit). In addition to winning the 2023 Fülesbagoly Talent Contest, the band’s singer Lilla Kató also took home the Best Singer award, and with her song ‘Above the Roofs’ they made it to the semi-finals of A Dal 2024.
Okos Viola
Okos Viola, singer and instrumentalist of Odd ID (Ethnofil), Makám Quartet and Fuvalom Vocal Ensemble, has been involved in music since childhood, and was introduced to the stage through folk music in her family. In addition to folk music, he has been influenced by many other musical genres, and as a performer he has also created music in the popular music genres.
He has been a member of the band Odd ID/Ethnofil for 13 years, where they have combined ethno, progressive and electronic elements in a unique sound and now describe themselves as „post-pop”.
Since 2023, he has been the singer – violinist of Zoltán Krulik’s Makám Quartet and a member of the folk a capella group Fuvalom. For a few years he has also been a regular solo performer.
This year he released his first solo album, a folk-inspired EP entitled Amerre én járok. The single features folk songs and folk elements as motifs in an alternative-style medium, featuring cobos, guitars, violins and other percussive instruments in addition to the singing voice. The music for the EP was recorded and edited by the artist on his own instruments, and the recordings were made on his own studio equipment during „creative retreats”. The debut EP was accompanied by visual material, shot together with Fruzsina Nagy Eszter, which also gave birth to the visual world of the EP’s songs. The resulting musical pieces are characterized by a clear, pensive, atmospheric world.
